The Brief
Reid Bikes, an international distributor of bikes, scooters, and watersports gear, approached Digital Storm in December 2020 seeking a complete website redevelopment. Their previous experience with another agency left them with a website that was unstable, filled with bugs, and unable to handle their growing traffic levels. Reid needed a bespoke WordPress build that could meet their functionality requirements while reflecting their brand’s global presence.
As a well-established brand with products available in over 20 countries and celebrity endorsements from the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Reid wanted a website that not only showcased their extensive product range but also elevated their brand identity. The goal was to create a site that was visually striking, functional, and capable of supporting their international audience.
The Solution
Digital Storm’s solution was to create a custom WordPress theme tailored to Reid’s needs, combining innovative design with robust functionality:
Custom WordPress Theme: We developed a bespoke theme that incorporated Reid’s new designs and streamlined the back-end experience for easy content management. This included complex custom functionality such as geolocation, an interactive map directory of stockists, comprehensive product pages with interactive image hotspots, and much more.
Visual Design: The new website embraced a luxury feel, utilising bold imagery, fonts, and design elements to tell Reid’s story. The interactive navigation interface featured buttons resembling bike cranks that magnetically locked onto the user’s cursor, enhancing the user experience.
Product Showcase: We prioritised showcasing Reid’s extensive product range. The visual, full-page menu fed through ‘Hot and Popular Products’ per range, giving visitors quick access to key products, distributor information, and brand details. The product pages featured interactive elements, including image hotspots, dynamic background and bike colour changes, and detailed specifications.
International Functionality: To cater to Reid’s global audience, we integrated geolocation settings that automatically adjusted prices and currency symbols based on the user’s location. The system also displayed location-specific messages, such as availability notifications or distributor contact prompts. Users could manually switch between measurement units to suit their preferences.
Interactive Map and Distributor Area: Using Google Maps JS API, we developed an interactive map-based directory for users to find their nearest stockists, integrated with geolocation to adjust automatically to the user’s location. A ‘distributor’ user account area was created, integrated with Reid’s CRM system, providing distributors with access to admin, sales information, and marketing resources.
Result
The redevelopment of the Reid website not only met the brief but exceeded expectations, creating a platform that’s as functional as it is visually striking. Built on a custom WordPress theme, the site now offers a seamless user experience, combining clean, modern design with dynamic features that showcase Reid’s full product range.
To support their growing international audience, the site includes geolocation and location-specific product pages, making sure users see the right information and pricing for their region. A new distributor login area has also made it easier for Reid’s network of stockists to access key resources quickly and efficiently.
Alongside the improved functionality, the site plays a big role in elevating Reid’s brand, using luxury design elements to clearly communicate who they are and what sets them apart. The result is a future-proof website that not only supports Reid’s global growth but also reflects their position as a leader in their field.
